PANIC AT PROUD LAKE

September 29th, 2008

Preparation for Panic at Proud Lake, a haunted adventure, taking place
the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weekends in October is progressing … Have you
noticed the banners at the corner of Wixom/Sleeth/Duck Lake and also at
Wixom/Glengary? Have you seen flyers posted? Did your child bring a
note home from school? Did you read about the event in a local paper?

We can still use help with the set up of the event. If you can help
put the finishing touches in place, please call or email me. We have
things that you can do to help (morning, afternoon or evening).

We also need more volunteers to participate as haunters. If you are
interested in haunting, there is a meeting on Wednesday at 7:00 at the
River Hawk Annex (call if you need directions). We also need people to
work in areas other than haunting (parking, fire tenders, misc. jobs).
You do not need to commit to work every night but we will need to know
availability for all volunteers.

We can use plastic “milk” jugs – ½ or 1 gallon to help light the
trail as we did for the night hikes. Please rinse your containers
before dropping them off at the Park office.

Lastly, if you have a generator that you could loan us for all or part
of the weekends, please contact the Park office. We can use units as
small as 1000 watts through as large as 5000 watts.

Take a look at the event website: www.panicatproudlake.com. Come on
out and help if you can. Bring your friends and family and encounter
the Panic at Proud Lake.

Haunters Needed

September 17th, 2008

Imagine yourslf as a jabbering maniac, slobering ghoul or shuffling zombie. Embraced by the night, you terrorize the living and feed on their fear. Sound like fun? Perhaps you should be part of the PANIC AT PROUD LAKE. Anyone interested in helping to haunt during the event needs to report to the Oak Shelter at Powers Picnic Area to choose an assignment sometime during the following dates/times: Friday, September 26 between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm or Wednesday, October 1 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Come early for the best selection of assignments!

The Legend

September 17th, 2008

The Legend began one cold and foggy night in 2006 when a group of local
teenagers ventured down the Huron River at Proud Lake Recreation Area.
Never were they seen again.

Rumor speaks that the environment of Proud Lake Recreation Area has
been permanently altered. Every cold and foggy October night the
forests and river hold a mist which transforms the otherwise peaceful
darkness into an atmosphere of terror. The river ripples with regret
of the taking of 2 teens who carelessly capsized their canoe and slipped
below the cold waters never to be seen again. The remaining teens
reached the shore and ventured into the woods, stricken with panic at
the loss of their friends. Only one teen ever returned to tell the
story.

Paddlers have reported hearing splashing and muffled cries for help as
they navigate the dark waters. The noise appears to remain always
around the next bend. The forest moans and the wind howls chilling
threats to visitors. There is a dampness in the air. It has been
thought that trees reach out to claim unsuspecting hikers from the trail
while the ground opens and swallows others. What other tragedies await
visitors are yet to be witnessed and limited only by the depths of ones
imagination.

Many visitors enter the ecosystem of Proud Lake Recreation Area in
October but few depart. Is there a realm that engulfs these missing
visitors? Do they join a community of lost adventurers? Are you brave
enough to venture into the depths of the unexplained…the unknown? Will
you survive the ripples of the river, the terror of the forest? Dare
you venture into the PANIC AT PROUD LAKE?
