The date for River Hawk Rumble III has been changed to August 15-16,
2009.

River Hawk Rumble can best be described as a festival of education in
outdoor activities for the entire family. Partners such as MMBA, SOLAR,
Heavner Canoe, SMAC, Planet Rock, Proud Lake Trail Riders will present
activity based educational programs that will give participants the
opportunity to not only learn about, but participate in specific outdoor
activities. Programs range from hiking and fishing to atlatel
throwing, camping, and riding a zip line. Sporting Good vendors will
showcase their recreational equipment. Ford Astronomy Club will
showcase the Saturday night sky through their telescopes and an
educational program. Sunday will provide opportunity to explore
additional programs or revisit Saturdays favorites. The Friends group
will offer snacks and meals at the River Hawk Café.

If you would like to be help w/ the River Hawk Rumble or know of an
organization that would like to have a booth at the Rumble, please
contact me.

REMINDER – This Saturday, Jaunary 17, is the 3rd Saturday of the month already! At 1:00 pm we will meet at the River Hawk Annex to Hike, Ski, Snowshoe. We will spend some time exploring the trails in the area and then return to the Annex for refreshments. The Annex does have heat and modern bathrooms! You are welcome to explore with the group or on your own. You may customize your outdoor activity in regards to time and tolerance for the cold – you do not have to stay with the group and may return to the heated Annex when you’re ready. We will have some displays highlighting activities available in the Park. Bring your family and friends. 2009 annual permits (as well as daily permits) will be available from a Ranger at the Annex.

Greetings and Happy New Year! I hope you will make 2009 a year that you become more involved w/ the Friends of Proud Lake Recreation Area. Members in good standing (having paid membership dues for the year) have voting privilages. Business meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month beginning in February. I’ve attached a 2009 Membership Application. We are planning some special events that will bring you to the Park for a great time.

Remember that we hike/ski/snowshoe on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm from the River Hawk Annex. We will also hike/ski/snowshoe on Saturday, January 17th. Snow Snake races are set for January 31 across from the River Hawk Lodge. If you would like to purchase a Snow Snake kit that has been prepped by the Boy Scouts, there’s still time, contact the Park office at 248-685-2433.
